What is a growth consult?
A growth consult is a consult determining what would be necessary regarding oral development for your child. At this visit, we take a series of digital photos, measure the palate, and review options for appliances needed to help with growth and expansion.

What type of growth/expansion appliance is used in your office?
The most common growth appliance that we use is a Three Way Schwartz appliance. This is a removable appliance used to expand the upper or lower arches in order to make room for all the permanent teeth. The purpose of this appliance is to grow the airway and prevent under development which can lead to adult sleep apnea, crowding, malocclusion, TMJ issues and more.

What records are needed to start a growth appliance?
The records needed in order to start a growth appliance are a digital scan of the arches, a series of photos, and updated X-rays.

Are there alternatives to root canals?
In some cases, there can be an alternative to a root canal when the tooth is not yet begun to abscess. In order to make this determination, either a digital X-ray or a cone beam scan would be needed. For an existing root canal, we would refer you to a holistic endodontist to have a cone beam scan done so they can determine the status of the current root canal. For a tooth that has an abscess, pain or sign of infection we would also refer you to the holistic endodontist for treatment of the root canal using ozone. In the case where an existing root canal has become reinfected and the recommendation is not to retreat, the typical recommendation would then be to extract the tooth using PRF treatment. Where we like to avoid root canals anytime possible, our belief is that saving teeth is always the most important. So if the prognosis for the tooth is good, the recommendation would be to treat using a root canal with holistic methods and ozone.
