Alleviate Head and Neck Pain with C2O Therapy

TMJ therapy done with C2O (Condylar Centering Orthotic) is a proven and predictable way to stabilize the TMJ or jaw joint.

Signs and symptoms of an unstable TMJ (bite/joint) also known as TMD are one or more of the following:

Head and Neck Pain, Headaches, Neck and Shoulder Pain, Head and Neck Muscle Tension, Earaches, Ear Pain, Ringing in the Ears, Unexplained Tooth or Mouth Pain, Tooth Wear, Broken Teeth, Gum Recession

The C2O is an acrylic horseshoe-shaped splint worn daily and adjusted weekly to allow for full joint relaxation. C2O splint therapy is usually recommended when one or more of the above symptoms are present, that indicate an unstable jaw joint.

The key to stabilizing the joint and relaxing the inflamed muscles is to keep the teeth apart and center the TMJ into it's most stable position. If this is not done the joint will worsen over time and continue to cause damage to the teeth and joints.

C2O therapy allows Dr. Kerbs to stabilize the joint as he makes calculated adjustments on the C2O splint every week, allowing the TMJ to move into a healthy position. In most cases, our patients see significant pain relief within the first weeks of wearing the splint. C2O therapy is meant to eliminate pain and discomfort caused by a disorder of the TMJ and settle the jaw joints to a healthy position.

After C2O therapy is complete, restorative treatment can be done to get your bite to correlate with the stable joint position. Restorative treatment usually begins after 8-12 weeks of C2O therapy. Restorative treatment may include any one or a combination of the following:

Adjustment of teeth by selective polishing, Composite Bonding, Crowns, Veneers

Dr. Kerbs is a graduate of the Texas Institute of Occlusal Studies and follows their state of the art minimally invasive protocol for restoring the bite. His goal is always to do the most conservative treatment as possible. C2O therapy allows him to rejuvenate the joints and teeth to allow for optimal oral health that will last.
